Country
The West African country of Ghana (pop. 23 million) is a very safe, stable country which is considered one of Africa's true success stories. Ghana is a parliamentary democracy that gained independence from Britain in 1957. English is the official language and is widely spoken. Cosmic Volunteers has sent hundreds of volunteers to Ghana since 2004. Cosmic's founder Scott Burke has visited Ghana three times, most recently in December 2007.

Location
The 2-Week Summer Break in Ghana takes place in the capital city Accra and in rural Kpando (the "K is silent) in the Volta Region. Kpando is located approximately two hours northeast of Accra. The Volta Region is a safe, quiet and peaceful area, away from the regular tourist circuits of Ghana.
