Country
The east African country of Kenya
(pop. 32 million) has long been known for its incredible wildlife
parks and safaris. Despite post-election tensions in early 2008,
the country has been a stable and fascinating destination with cultures
and scenery you will never forget. Kenya gained its independence
in 1963, and Swahili and English are its official languages. Cosmic
Volunteers has been sending volunteers to Kenya since 2005, after
visits by Cosmic's founder Scott Burke.
Location
The 2-Week Winter Break in Kenya is located in the town of Kakamega
in Western Kenya, approximately seven hours by bus from Nairobi.
Kakamega (pop. 80k) is a safe, quiet and peaceful area, away from
the safari tourist areas near Kenya's border with Tanzania.
