Location

Dates and Duration
Volunteer programs in Da Nang are available year-round and begin on every Monday of each month. You can choose to volunteer for any duration from 2 week to 12 weeks.
Projects
There are three volunteer projects in Da Nang — child care, Social Support Center for the homeless and disabled and orphans, and teaching English. Volunteers will have to do some work at each project every week. If a volunteer is uncomfortable with working with babies or working with the disabled, then we will try to adjust the weekly schedule for them.
Child Care. This programs takes places at a children’s group home where there are 25 babies who were abandoned at local hospitals, markets, and bus stations. Our volunteers assist the caregivers in looking after the babies and children. Volunteers play with the babies and children, help feed them and do special activities with them, such as helping them brush their teeth or doing an educational activity.
Homeless Volunteering. Volunteers serve at a Social Support Center for 200 homeless people in Da Nang city. They are abandoned babies, children with disabilities and elders. Volunteers assist local practitioners with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, education for children with special needs, and health and mental care for elders.
Teaching English. Volunteers teach at two kindergarten schools and one primary school in Vietnam. The children are 4-12 years old. Schools do have a Vietnamese English teacher. But the children do not get many opportunities to speak and listen to foreigners, so the volunteer’s main role is to practice speaking English with the children and helping them with pronunciation and intonation. Volunteers do not need to be native English speakers, just fluent. Our local team provides volunteers with lesson plans and guidance.
Arrival and Orientation
Volunteers must arrive in Da Nang on the Sunday before orientation that begins every Monday. Book your flights to arrive at the Da Nang International Airport (DAD) in Da Nang. A member of our team will meet you at the airport, then take you to our local team’s office and then to your accommodations. (Before you leave home we will send you the name and cell phone of our team member).
On Monday morning your orientation covers information you need to know while living and volunteering in Da Nang. This includes an introduction to Vietnam, health and safety guidelines, program rules, Vietnamese culture and customs, details on your project and placement, and excursions.

Volunteers sleep in bunk beds with a maximum of 4 volunteers per room. Volunteers have 3 meals per day from Monday to Friday and breakfast Saturday morning. The food is a cross between Vietnamese and Western. On weekends, volunteers can eat at local restaurants close by the volunteer house.
WIFI and Cell Phones
There is free WiFi at the group volunteer house in Da Nang. We absolutely recommend having a cell phone in Vietnam — for safety and logistic reasons. Make sure you have a data plan for Vietnam with your carrier back home. You an also buy a SIM card in Da Nanang for about $10 that gives you unlimited data for one month. If you do not wish to use your smartphone, you can buy a very cheap talk/text phone in Da Nang for basic communication. You are also welcome to bring a device(s) like a tablet or laptop.
