Our Founder

Philadelphia-native Scott P. Burke founded Cosmic Volunteers in 2001 after volunteering for three months as a teacher in rural Nepal in 2000. It was his first trip outside the US, a "real eye-opener in so many ways."

The trip moved him so much that he decided to help others have the same wonderful experience he did.

In the decade following his Nepal trip, Scott made dozens of visits to many developing countries in order to setup new programs for Cosmic Volunteers.

On those trips, he hired local coordinators, visited project sites, stayed with host families, and did lots of volunteer work himself.
