HIV/AIDS Volunteering in Ghana
Our HIV/AIDS volunteer program in Ghana provides volunteers with
the opportunity to help Ghanaians prevent the transmission of HIV
and to provide support to patients and families affected by HIV/AIDS.
For HIV/AIDS volunteer work in Ghana, the available locations are
primarily in the Volta
Region. The Volta region is in the eastern part of the country,
about 2-3 hours from Accra). There are a couple of primary options
for your HIV/AIDS volunteer work:
The first is a placement in the town of Ho in Volta, where you
would volunteer with an HIV/AIDS advocacy organization.
You can volunteer at their medical clinic for HIV/AIDS patients,
as well as with their outreach programs in the local community where
they educate people on the disease for prevention purposes and to
lessen the stigma. When you arrive, the organization will provide
you with training on their work and in HIV/AIDS in general. There
are also occasional home visits to patients' homes, where you can
spend time with them and their families.
The other main option is to volunteer at an orphanage that
has children who are HIV positive. The location is in Kpando
in Volta. The work normally involves playing games, arts and crafts,
helping with homework, assisting with computers, playing sports,
and sometimes getting the children dressed in the morning and helping
them with meals. Click

For accommodations, in Ho you would live with a host family. In
Kpando, you can live either at the orphanage or with a host family.
